Affiliate Marketing Challenge 3: Week 1 Results

September 7, 2008 Posted by Tyler Cruz

We’re already a week into the Affiliate Marketing Challenge 3, believe it or not. There’s still plenty of time to register and earn your way to a prize (or prizes), so don’t let starting a little bit late affect your decision. In fact, there is currently nobody eligible for 3rd place of the New Referrals category, meaning that all you currently need to do is generate $0.01 to take the  position of 3rd place and win yourself a flexible illuminated keyboard.

If you haven’t entered yet, I highly recommend you do. MarketLeverage has put up so many great prizes that it’s certainly worth your while to try to compete for them. I’m actually very envious of you guys and wish I could compete in my own contest! I’d be taking home the Nintendo DS & Guitar Hero if I could…

For those of you who have signed up, but are having trouble making any leads or sales, keep working at it! Part of the great thing about this competition is that it really pushes and encourages you to make more money through affiliate marketing. I know of at least a few contestants who have surprised themselves by raking in a lot more dough that they thought they could, simply due to the nature of competition.

    Current Rankings

Here are the latest rankings as of August 7th, 1:52AM Pacific time.

I’ve now referred a total of 90 affiliates to MarketLeverage, 7 of which signed up during this current competition.

Together, during this competition thus far, they’ve generated a total of $12,348.40 in commissions. The current leaderboards are shown below:

    Top Main Affiliates
    Rank Participant
    Earnings
    1st CD8470 “The Behemoth” $10,087.40
    2nd CD8269 “The Rocket” $1,544.00
    3rd CD8088 $233.60
    4th CD8137 “The Tortoise” $168.00
    5th CD9189 “The Newcomer” $106.40
      Combined Total (all referrals): $12,348.45
    Top New Affiliates
    Rank Participant Earnings
    1st CD10451 $55.80
    2nd CD10565 $21.00
    3rd OPEN $0.00
      Combined Total (new sign-ups): $76.80

    Top VIP Affiliates
    Rank Participant Earnings
    1st OPEN N/A
      Combined Total (new sign-ups): N/A

It’s no surprise that CD8470, aka “The Behemoth”, has once again continued to show his complete and utter dominance in the competition. The undefeated, two-time competition winner, is on pace (just barely) to reach the $50,000 VIP tier and take home the Panasonic 60GB HD Drive Camcorder.

Oddly, no big/super affiliates have joined the competition – at least not yet – and while this is not great news for me, it’s fantastic news for you as it means the competition is quite low. 3rd place down is very easy to compete for; you currently only need to average $33 a day to take 3rd position – that’s not asking a lot!

Another strange observation is CD9189 who is currently in 5th place. Last competition he finished in 2nd place with $6,770.40 – so he should be at around $1,700 right now, not $106. I guess he moved some of his campaigns over to another network or else is having some issues. It will be interesting to see if he makes a move in the competition later on. Perhaps he’s going for a “sneak attack” 🙂

I hope you guys notice that 3rd position for the New Affiliate category is open… that’s all I’m going to say about that.

    Blogging Entrants

So far, only 2 people have blogged about this competition. That means that as it stands right now, if you wrote a blog post about this competition, you would be guaranteed a prize (as long as 3 more bloggers don’t post about it) since there are 5 prizes available.

    Competition Goals and Thoughts

My personal goal for this competition was for the total amount of commissions to hit $50,000. After one week, the total stands at $12,348.40, so it looks like it will be very tight. Here’s hoping…

To be absolutely honest with you guys – I’m disappointed with the level of participation in this 3rd competition so far. It’s still early, so things can definitely change, but I’m just surprised that with all of the prizes that are up for grabs that more people aren’t participating…

There are still 3 weeks left for this competition, so if you haven’t signed up yet, come on and join the fun! Even if you don’t place in this competition, you’ll be all set up and ready to go for the next one.

Plus, what better way to get your feet wet into affiliate marketing than to join a contest? I hope to see you on the leaderboard list soon!

    1. These are some great prizes that are being awarded to the best affiliate marketers. This really should convince people to join in on the affiliate marketing challenge.

    2. Pat Riley says:

This is a well written blog! Very Informative. This challenge is awsome. Lots of good prizes. I have written multiple articles on how to make money online. All using completely free ways. I have also proven them all to work and give step by step processes to make them work for you. Check my blog out at Proven ways to make money online

    3. I wouldn’t get discouraged Tyler. Having 90 referrals is amazing. Even if only 5-10% of those participate at any level that’s still “free money” in your pocket.

Remember, you’re getting paid 5% of REVENUES on these campaigns, not profits, so it’s not as easy as just increasing revenues for most people. They need to watch their profit lines as well, which means they may need to tweak, or even cut campaigns.

It might be a bumpy ride in the first few months for the people you refer (like me), but once we learn this whole Affiliate Marketing game, and we make good profits from it, you’ll continue to reap the benefits of it long after this contest is over.

    4. CD8088 says:

I get no nicknames like the other guys?

I signed up with the first contest, didn’t have anything running at the time. I did have a little volume with the second contest but not enough to win anything. For this contest, I’m doing my best but how do you catch up to that Behemoth?

      • Tyler Cruz says:

        Haha,

I’m working on it – I just didn’t have any strong characteristic from your earnings to give you a moniker yet – although I might do something like “Mr.Luck” since you have 3 8’s in your name, which is a lucker number in some Asian countries.

As for The Behemoth – it’s actually in everybody’s best interest that you root for him to make more, because if he hits the VIP category, he moves out of the Main Category and you all move up a slot…

    5. So far everyone is doing good 10k in one week wow keep it up everyone lol one great contest

    6. Hey Tyler, you know the little sidebar widget thing you have showing the Top 5?

Could you also list the Top 3 Newcomers?

One thing I would suggest is updating the stats more often. The quicker the stats get updated, the more competition you’ll have with people competing head to head.

    7. Are there going to be competitions every month with market leverage and yourself?

    8. Avon Blake says:

Tyler, the reason you are not getting as much participation as you want is because your figures make your pitch look like a Chow-esque scam.

You know the sort of thing, sub affiliates running on treadmills making chump change while the guy at the top grabs a cut.

Aren’t people tired of that crap yet?

      • Who says we’re running on treadmills making chump change?

Actually, on second though… you’re right… there is no money in Affiliate Marketing anymore, everyone should just stay away from it altogether.

        🙂

Your argument reminds of the time someone told me that they never want to make a six figure income in their life because when you make that much money, you pay too much in taxes.

    9. Kadir says:

Wow…You are offering so much of prizes. I’m in…

    10. I just noticed that I was not referred by you, but by the person running the banner ad at the top of the screen.

Any reason you would let a conflicting ad on the site? (just curious)

    11. Brendan says:

I made about 5 bucks so far. I tried an email only campaign and sent it to my 1700+ sunscribers. Only problem is probably about 1600 of the emails got sent to the spam folder. Used some crappy mailing list thing. I need to find someway to get the damn email in their mailbox.

    12. Tyler Cruz says:

Have you tried AWeber? I’ll be making a post on them in a while. They’re a very reputable e-mail management service which, due to their very stingent anti-spam policies, are safelisted on most ISPs…

    13. Mike Huang says:

Dang Tyler, another contest from ML?!?! I gotta get in touch with Dina or Debby to turn them my way, LOL.

Anyways, I think the main problem right now is that there have been a lot of ML contests, where a entry method is to sign up for ML. This means that a lot of affiliates are probably referred by other bloggers. I may be wrong, but this is my take on things.

      -Mike

    14. Otooo says:

So what prizes are we eligible to win if we blog about the contest?

    15. Ganesh says:

I’d be satisfied with a t-shirt. I would aim for the bigger prizes. But the thing is that, I don’t know anything in affiliate marketing.

    16. Georgia says:

Why don’t integrate your competition with Gyutae into this contest too? Must be exciting.

    17. #1 spot guy is killing the competition

    18. wow, that’s some serious prizes ! Sadly, I’m still far away to make this kind of money in order to get the alienware pc..so..back to work !

    19. Why is there always one guy killing the competition?
