Affiliate Marketing Challenge 5: Halfway Point
November 18, 2008 Posted by Tyler CruzAs stated last month, doing weekly updates of the past affiliate competitions seemed a bit too repetitive so I’m now only doing 3 updates per month: the launch, midway update, and final results. I was a bit late in publishing this post so it’s a couple days past the midway point but better late than never, right?
There’s still plenty of time to register and earn your way to a prize (or prizes) so don’t let starting a little bit late affect your decision. In fact, it’s ridiculously easy to grab a spot in the New Referrals category; all you currently need to do is generate $12.81 to take the lead into 1st and be eligible to win yourself an 8GB iPod Touch. Or, generate $3.81 and you’ll be on track to take home an 8GB iPod Nano. Or, generate ONE CENT in commissions and you’ll be in 3rd place to take home $50…
For those of you who have signed up but are having trouble making any leads or sales, keep working at it! Part of the great thing about this competition is that it really pushes and encourages you to make more money through affiliate marketing. I know of at least a few contestants who have surprised themselves by raking in a lot more dough that they thought they could, simply due to the nature of competition.

Current Rankings
Here are the latest rankings as of November 17th, 7:30PM Pacific time.
I’ve now referred a total of 124 affiliates to MarketLeverage, of which 12 signed up during this current competition.
Together, during this competition thus far, they’ve generated a total of $49,016.80 in commissions in just 17 days. The current leaderboards are shown below:
Top Main Affiliates | ||
Rank | Participant |
Earnings
|
1st | CD8470 “The Behemoth” | $42,305.60 |
2nd | CD9050 | $2,619.00 |
3rd | CD10565 "The Magician" | $1,450.00 |
4th | CD8083 | $930.00 |
5th | CD8137 “The Tortoise” | $546.00 |
Combined Total (all referrals): | $49,016.80 |
Top New Affiliates | ||

As should be no surprise, “The Behemoth” has continued to show his complete and utter dominance in these competitions, having generated over $42,000 with MarketLeverage in just 17 days. The undefeated, four-time competition winner is on a good pace to hit the $75,000 VIP tier. I’ve talked to him and he really wants that big screen TV!
The rest of the leaders, CD9050, CD10565, CD8083, and CD8137 are all regulars. CD10565 seems to have halted or slowed down his campaign which means CD8083 can catch up and overtake him by the end of the month if he works hard.
Out of the 12 new sign-ups to MarketLeverage this month, only 2 of them have generated any commissions so far. The first place is currently at $12.80 so you only need to generate $12.81 to overtake first place to win an iPod Touch! If that isn’t a deal I don’t know what is. If you haven’t signed up yet, I highly suggest you do…
Blogging Entrants
So far 9 people have blogged about this competition. That means that as it stands right now, if you wrote a blog post about this competition, your odds of winning would be exactly 50% since there are 5 prizes available. Writing a blog post for a 50% chance to pocket an easy $20? Not bad…
Competition Goals and Thoughts
My personal goal for this competition was for the total amount of commissions to hit $75,000. After 17 days, the total stands at $49,016.80 so we’re actually on pace to hit over $85,000 let alone $75,000… keep it up!
At the same time, I’m a bit disappointed with the level of participation in this 5th competition. Out of the 124 affiliates who signed up, only a handful are generating any revenue. I guess this boils down to the Pareto principle (80% of your sales comes from 20% of your clients) but I’m just surprised that with all of the prizes up for grabs that more people aren’t participating.
If you haven’t signed up yet, come on and join the fun! Even if you don’t place in this competition, you’ll be all set up and ready to go for the next one. I hope to see you on the leaderboard list soon!
Looks good Tyler!
Seems like a lot of the ML Referrals have dried up completely. I understand why they are still aggressively marketing with contests like these (and mine)… but I feel like the returns are falling off the charts and they need a way to reach a new audience. Thanks for the update!
Well, my numbers keep growing each month so ML is actually benefiting greatly from these contests. I mean, we’ve already surpassed the quarter-million dollar mark in sales. I’m just surprised more people aren’t competing is all.
What, me slow down? Nahhh…
I do need to launch more campaigns though. Been so busy getting everything setup with my Affiliate Challenge on my site that I haven’t had a lot of time to tweak my campaigns.
It’s time I got more serious about it though. Watch out CD9050, I want that PS3.

The Market Leverage craze is definitely slowing down now after everyone has had a chance to participate and to get sponsored by ML. Too bad the people at ML won’t listen to me and try sites other than blogs ๐
-Mike
It might be slowing, but its not dead. There are still plenty of ways to earn.
Wow the guy coming first is killing everyone else by like $40k
I doubt anyone will catch up with less than half a month to go. Great prizes, but the real prize is the amount of money you can make.
I didn’t enter because truthfully I have no idea how market leverage works…maybe an explanation would be awesome
Ryan,
I’d be more than happy to tell you all about MarketLeverage. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have.
Also, you can count on more contests just like this in the future!
Take care!

Hey Tyler,
Do you know if the behemoth has a website/blog or anything?
I wanna know how he makes that much money! ๐
Cheers,
Rhys
He wrote a past guest post here before, do a search for it. But I’ll see if I can try to get him to write another or possibly do an audio interview with him ๐
Hey Tyler,
I’m having a hard time being accepted by ML (have been rejected 3-4 times). I’ve sent you an email so if you can get back to me soon it’ll be much appreciated.
I’ll check it out soon (bit backlogged right now). Usually the issue is if you don’t live in the US, you need to provide your bank info upon registration or they’ll auto decline…
I have already registered with your referral link before 2 days, but still no call from them…
I have only 10 days now ๐
Did you provide your bank information upon registration?
No I dont, I am not from US
It seems they don’t care for non-US publishers.
No, that’s exactly why they need it. All international publishers are required to submit their bank details since they are paid only through bank wire and not cheques.
Hey Tyler,
I’ve applied with ML a couple of days ago, and still no reply. I’ve read your replies here, but there weren’t any bank information fields during the registration.
I’m not from the US.. So, maybe it’s true. Maybe they don’t like us anymore. ๐
Anyway, hope you could speed things up. The contest is almost over….
Cheers,
Alex
yes , there was no such field while signing up.
@Amaresh @problogineer @alex Hi guys! We do, of course, accept international affiliates. A bank reference is required, which is included on the application page once you select your country. Please feel free to reach out to myself or erick@marketleverage.com, who can get you the form. We look forward to working with you!
Everything is going fine here. However, I have yet to receive my prize from the September contest (and October contest).
I’ve spoken to ML about this and apparantely the shipping company screwed up. We’ve sent you an e-mail about this and to make up for it you’re getting an extra game with your Nintendo DS package ๐
You can thank Dina for that.
What’s the chances of me being moved under your referral? I am not under anyone right now.
Unfortunately ML won’t move you if you already have an account there, sorry ๐
ye i saw that too
Tyler, I hope you don’t get discouraged enough to stop this contest. I really intend to make an impact on this, but everything I’ve tried hasn’t worked yet. I’m not getting discouraged (this contest is definitely a motivator) and I hope you don’t get discouraged enough to stop this anytime soon. I want some prizes!
Don’t worry, you can expect a December contest ๐
I’m going to give Dec’s contest a try. ๐ Sounds like a fun thing to do!
People are making some great money there. Good luck everyone ๐
Intresting to see what will happen in the next few days… Im out to help my friend to win the new referral section here… ๐
Damn sweet line up of prizes!
the prizes are great! you would think people would be jumping in…. I will post a blog on this!
