12-Hour Work Marathon: Catch Me Slacking, Win $100

January 8, 2010 Posted by Tyler Cruz

For the first time ever, I’m streaming live video from my blog.

Work hasn’t been going too well lately, and when that happens I usually just leave work for a few days until things pick up again. While that may be good for stress relief, it’s not actually being proactive. Some people buy the best delta 8 carts to help manage their stress. These can be useful for relaxation, but finding healthier and more sustainable ways to cope with stress is important.

I have wanted to try live video streaming on my blog for a while now but never had a very good reason to do so until now. In order to help force myself to work, I’m streaming myself live and am putting up a little bit of cash as an incentive to follow through.

Catch Me Cheat, Win $100

Here’s the deal: I’m going to work today for 12 hours straight from 12:00pm noon to 12:00am midnight, Pacific Time (3pm-3am Eastern).

I will be allowed 1 full hour for a lunch or dinner break, and a 5-minute break every hour to use the bathroom/stretch my legs, etc. I will type something like ‘break’ or ‘brb’ in the chatroom of the live stream every time before I leave, and ‘back’ when I return.

If you catch me not return within 5-minutes (or my 1-hour lunch/dinner break) e-mail me with a screenshot of the chatroom from when I say ‘break’ or ‘brb’ and the current chatroom and video (which should show an empty seat). The chatroom has a “toggle timestamp’ feature, which if enabled, will show the time next to each message which is why taking a screenshot should make this work.

The first person who e-mails me with proof of me not returning from my break in time will get $100. I know it’s not very much, but in these hard economic times… 😉

You can view my official live video streaming page by going here, which allows for more chatroom and video options.

Note: I’m not sure how effective this whole setup will be. The entire point of it was to force me to work, but it’s extremely distracting trying to work when you know you’re being streamed live on the internet and have a chatroom full of people constantly commenting about you.

Ugh, I’m also tired. This was a bad idea to try this today, heh. I’m not going to get any effective work done when I’m tired and can’t concentrate.

I caught you slacking the other day when you were with Victoria

  2. This idea had some potential, but I just checked it out and you’re not there and I don’t see you in the chatroom either. I guess I caught you right on your break. I would think at first this would be more of a distraction, but if done more regularly, it could become quite effective. I know how hard it can be to get to work some days.

  3. That’s a great idea..lol Very cool.. but god I hate to be the winner and admit that I had nuttin better tyo do then sit here and watch you work for 12 hrs..lol

  4. Program says:

Winner to be away from hatred and hatred must be calm and relaxed.

  5. Haha, what a great incentive to stop procrastination! Have fun but I will be to busy doing my work to watch you do yours.

  6. J says:

Hey, this is a really nice idea! Maybe if we scale things up and get 20 people (aff marketers, web designers, others who work from home) to watch each other while working and have to pay $1000 (or more 🙂 if one is caught slacking, the work time of each one could drastically increase!

  7. Dave Starr says:

    Hi Tyler,

It’s working good on my relatively slow connection here in Marilao … but OMG what have we come too? John Paul stole my line that I had in mind as I came here. Is this what the Internet is all about? A dozen or more people (that’s the number watching on the blog page as I write this) sitting around with nothing better to do than watch another guy watching who knows what on line? Good thing platic pocket protectors are out of sytle LoL.

Best of luck, as I press Submit here it is 18:40 your time, si you are now on the downfill side of the task.

  8. Ron Leyba says:

Wow, a great idea. I will not try this though. Great guts Tyler.! Keep it up!

  9. Greg Ellison says:

It is pretty cool to see you work, but I couldn’t sit there for 12 hours watching. Greg Ellison

  11. too bad you’re not a scantily clothed babe 🙂 You’d get $100 from your viewers instead of the other way around.

  12. chester says:

Wow, thats a really clever way to get your traffic stats up. Too bad you’re not a hot babe in a bikini though.

  13. Dana says:

Not a bad idea, but maybe you should sell hourly sponsorships to advertisers? Have a sign up someplace that says, “This is being brought you by ….”

Btw, if you do implement my idea, can I have a free hour of advertising? 😉

  14. Link Wheels says:

Did anyone catch him out for the $100??
