Movie-Vault.com Development Update #2
October 15, 2009 Posted by Tyler CruzIt’s already been over two weeks since I last gave an update as to the status of Movie-Vault.com’s revamp development, so I thought I’d give you guys an update on what’s been going on.
The rate of progress has been going okay, but we are starting to fall behind schedule now. Our original completion date was set for October 23rd, and that included the migration from the development server and a testing phase. As it stands right now, I’ll be happy if we can relaunch on November 1st, but I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t happen until the first or second week of November.
Part of the reason for the added delay is I actually just commissioned for a number of new features to be implemented on the site.
Here’s another screencast video I made showing what the new Movie-Vault.com currently looks like in its current stage on the development server:
As you can see, a lot of the finer details have been implemented, but there’s still a lot more to be done. At its present stage, and taking into account that I just commissioned for more work to be done on it, I’d say it’s currently around 65-70% done.
I can’t wait until it’s completely finished and staff return to contributing news, reviews, and other content to the site. It’s a big investment I’ve made in both time and money, but big investments can also pay off big time as well.
What do you think of the new Movie-Vault.com at its current stage? Were you expecting more? Or do you think it’s coming along nicely?
It is coming along very nicely Tyler. Keep up the great work with it. That is pretty cool with the Aweber integration with the signup. That is a great feature. Greg Ellison
Yeah, it’s one of those small, simple things that can pay huge dividends down the road.
Hmm it will be interesting to see the offers you will promote to the list.
Also whats your mail rate for lists like weekly, bi- weekly or monthly?
I haven’t decided yet. I’ll probably decide after my first mail-out and then adjust it based on the opt-out numbers, but I’m thinking something like once a month.
As for offers, they will be anything movie-related, so stuff like Netflix and Blockbuster.
Tyler it looks like it is coming along great. Delays are to be expected, especially when you start thinking of new ideas to add. I’m sure those features will make this website even better. The investment of time and money will most definitely be worthwhile.
I have never known a project to actually finish on the date it was originally set for. The new site sounds very promising 🙂
I’m curious — how much have you spent total and how much do you estimate that you’ll spend total (design + code)?
I remember him somewhere saying somewhere around $10,000. Hopefully it pays off in the end. 🙂
damn cool… i have visit the site . it look wonderful.. great job tyler
Hey Tyler!
I would say that its indeed coming out nice. With a lot of improvements & much better look than last time & I am sure the finished version would be even the more better. I can see your concern for investments you have made, man! But I am sure, with so many developments, I am sure it will pay rich dividends. man!
Tyler, the design is still too oldschool – and i think you should do more things yourself, webdesign in photoshop isnt that uneasy – that would save you some money.
The design is great. I think you just don’t like the colour scheme.
“The design is great.” Wow, what a professional reaction to a feedback!
Heh, sorry. I understand it was only your opinion.
The problem is, design is such a subjective thing. I just find it hard to believe that you think the design is “oldschool”… I can certainly see you not liking the dark palette, but the design and layout does not seem old school to me.
Then again, that’s just MY opinion 😉
Content is king, design is overrated.
I disagree. I think the design is excellent. Sometimes oldschool is better.
The new website is looking great Tyler.
A lot of features I would have thought would be commonplace on any movie-related website, especially on IMDB!
It’s looking good only I think the Graphics needs to be made more better. Don’t know how it looks in real as it’s only a video..
And there is a great difference in watching a website live than in a video. So will have to w8 for the actual launch..
I think it is coming along nicely. There are always going to be delays and completion time adjustments when you take on a big project.
Always nice to see someone having success with forums. What a task to get these babies started. Tyler tell us about other sites you have? See my post on routines for affiliate marketing.
The theme is looking incredible Tyler, keep up the great work.
The site is coming along quite nicely I can see.
Why would you not 301 all of the threads to their new locations? gj.
Looks very good. You should keep up that great work!
Just an fyi: I went over to Movie-Vault, clicked on your name (as author of a post) and got a 500 Internal Server Error:
