Starcraft-O-Rama
May 23, 2007 Posted by Tyler CruzYes, the Starcraft craziness continues…
Man, I’ve been so busy the past few days. I have so much going on right now and am definitely not bored. Things haven’t been like this for several months; the last time it was a bit hectic was when I was buying my condo and finalizing the sale of Bookmark.com through the lawyers.
There are pro’s and con’s to being this busy. The con’s (I always like to start with the bad news) are that it can take a lot out of me, and takes up a lot more work hours. However, that’s also a good thing; I’m notorious for only working a couple hours a day and so this is really forcing me to put in more hours.
I’m also getting a lot of important work done, not just smaller ‘busy’ work such as updating content. I usually find that after these “work bursts” which usually seem to occur several times per year, that I accomplish a lot of important things. Right now the focus is heavily on Starcraft, but is also spent on PublisherSpot (a lot of great things are forthcoming) and my other projects.
Moving on, I have a bunch of great stuff going on with my other sites and projects but I’ll focus on Starcraft in this post.
First off, I’ve already received a bid close to 5-figures for SC2.net and Starcraft2.net from a known contact. I haven’t even put it up for sale and already there is demand for it 🙂 However, I’m not selling it, at least not yet. I really am going to develop it, so I’d want an “offer I can’t refuse” if I were to sell them.
Also, If I were to sell them, I’d most likely wait until the actual release of SC2, and then put them up for sale publicly. But the bid I did receive for them is very reasonable, and I’d love to say how much I paid for the domains to again show you guys how to grasp opportunity, but I’m still keeping that a secret. I’m telling you guys, domain arbitrage is the easiest way to get into this game, and is the easiest way to gain extremely high ROI.
I’ve contacted another forum skinning company which I just found out about yesterday, and they haven’t contacted me back yet but I absolutely love them. Their designs are pretty simple, but done well. I definitely want to go with them if they’ll only contact me back.
I also have two back-up plans. One of them is I contacted an absolutely crazy-talented designer (who also charges absolutely crazy prices, but warranted ;)), whose style is PERFECT for SC2. His portfolio is crazy impressive, and anyhow I might have him design the forum skin and then have somebody slice and code it for him since he doesn’t do that. This would be a very expensive route though, so hopefully that first forum skinning company will contact me soon.
I’ll end with a fun story:
I’m not a professional Starcraft player, and I can’t even hold my own against the more dedicated/experienced players, but I do know that I’m better than 99.3% of the players out there. And so whenever people find out that I play (used to play) Starcraft, I’ll often get a “Want to play sometime? I’ll own you” response. Same thing happends with chess. Beating such people brings me no satisfaction because I already know that they can’t compete with me, so I usually reply with “Want to play for $50 a game?”. Money will satisfy me, you see 🙂
Anyhow, so this occured on my Poker Forum Oops, as I was writing this I just had somebody contact me and offer some domains for sale, of which I bought one: StarcraftBoards.com, so I’ll add that to my collection 😉
Anyhow, this occured on my Poker Forum (My username is KiD[ReD] there), and so I had to respond with my $50 per game response, and I wanted to agree to a 5-game series too. However, I chickened out at $50 per game because I thought there was a good chance he was hustling me or would get a pro friend to play for him or something, so we renegotiated at $25 per game.
Let’s just say that… I should have stuck to $50 per game… we played two games before he wanted to stop to practice some, so I think we’ll be playing the rest later today or tomorrow. I felt bad for taking his money after the first game so I started to give him odds. Soon he’ll get 5:1 odds from me. It does sound like I’m falling into a hustling plan, though, doesn’t it? Heh.
After he cried mercy, I found myself another challenger. However he didn’t want to bet money, so I came up with a good alternative. I’ll let the following image taken from the forums of DNForum.com describe it:
Hehe, evil eh? We’ll play more in the future, I presume. For more years on DNForum, and then we can put them on his signatures on other sites such as NamePros and DigitalPoint!
Moving on again, I have two other Starcraft domains I’m working on attaining, and I just tried grabbing one of the largest SC out there, but word came back that that probably isn’t going to happen.
That’s it for now…
Did the person who made the offer find you through your blog?
Yes.
So you think you can beat me eh? 🙂

I’d be happy to play you at poker tyler. Make it $50 a game and we can play a series of 3, if you are up for it. Wait a week or so though, when i’m not as busy.
What site do you play at?
No thanks. I’m decent at poker, but I only bet on games like chess and Starcraft because luck plays an extremely minor role. Everybody knows that there’s a lot of luck in poker 😉
Yer you are right, make it a 1000 games and we’ll find the best player 😉 lol
Ahh so the domain was bookmark.com ! Awesome.
wtf it shows all xxx sites on bookmark.com haha
So I guess bookmark.com is the domain that you sold but couldn’t disclose? 😛
Yeah they said it was okay to disclose it because they had announced it themselves for something they were doing.
Can you post the portfolio link for the “crazy-talented designer”
Im just curious…
[…] as tyler cruz announces his purchase of some great StarCraft domains, i have myself made some good domain […]
Yes, I also wanna know..
I won’t be disclosing my designers and stuff. I found a new forum skinning company and so far they are absolutely amazing. If they end up presenting to me what they’ve promised, they’ll be an amazing catch. We’ll see how things fo first though. I’ll charge $25 to share their name on.
you’re a joke buddy..
$25 to give out a name..
pfft
He wants $25 to give out his name on his holy blog. Try to understand!
He doesn’t want to give out free plugs.
[/sarcasm]
I’ll play you at chess any day.
bryan, check your mail,
no one beats tyler at chess ^^
